My Passion for Parkinson's - May 2019
My name is Julie and I am the co-founder/owner of the Vermont Massage Clinic. Over the last couple of years, I have had the good fortune to work with an ever-increasing number of clients from the Parkinson's Community. During that time, I have seen many of my clients who suffer from it realize great benefits from both massage and from Chinese Medicine. This is what prompted me to institute the "Voucher Program," as a way to (again) ensure that these clients can receive regular treatments, and regular relief. More about that program can be found at our CSMs page.
I thought I'd take a few minutes to share my experience as well as discuss some of the great benefits that my clients are enjoying from the different treatments that we employ.
When I first started working with my first Parkinson's client, I realized that massage seemed to help reconnect his mind and his body. Many of the symptoms were noticeably diminished, including the stiffness and the shaking. I still watch in awe as I see this happen with my patients today. There are also good results in the non-motor areas as well, including reduced fatigue, depression, and improved sleep.
We also use other eastern techniques supplement massage in the quest to alleviate our clients' Parkinson's symptoms. For example, Moxibustion or Moxa is effective at reducing the tremors caused by the internal cold that Parkinson's clients experience. This therapy warms the body and relaxes the muscles, leading to reduced chills and thus, reduced tremors. Another example of eastern techniques we use is the use of Pulse diagnosis to determine organ weaknesses, which can then be addressed via the accupressure along the corresponding Meridian channels.
